The Words Alive Community Reading Initiative encompasses Words Alive programs and initiatives that reach out to the general community and encourage a love of reading among all age groups and populations. Programs include the Libraries Project, which collects new and used books and then redistributes them in the form of lending libraries to organizations serving at-risk and/or low-income populations all over San Diego County. Words Alive currently collects and distributes more than 1,500 books a year with this program. The Words Alive Read to Me workshops educate parents and caregivers of preschool age children about the importance of routinely reading aloud to their children, how to do so effectively with developmentally appropriate materials and how to use the Words Alive lending library at their location.
If you have books you would like to donate to the Words Alive Libraries Project or are interested in having the Read to Me workshop series at your location, please contact us at (858) 274-9673 or click here to e-mail us. Please click here to download a Words Alive Lending Library application. |
