Where the Wild Books Are!
To inspire more than 5,000 children, teens, and families to love reading each year takes a community-wide effort - and we’d love your help!
On a regular basis, we’re in need of volunteer support at our offices in East Village to help our staff prepare materials for children, teens, and families. We call these fun events “Where the Wild Books Are” since volunteers help us tame the piles of books and educational materials to create quality programming that goes directly into the hands of young readers! This work varies each week - volunteers often pack backpacks, organize curriculum, count out classroom sets of books, sort materials, or whatever the most pressing need is that day.
Below you’ll find dates for upcoming “Where the Wild Books Are” Volunteer Days at our office. This list is updated regularly.
You’re welcome to bring your family (kids should be at least 10 years old, and youth under 16 will need a guardian to remain onsite), your book club, or other groups.
Please RSVP on the form below, and then put it on your calendar! You’ll receive a final confirmation about 24 hours beforehand with a preview of the project you’ll be tackling. When you arrive, you’ll receive a brief orientation and then we’ll get started right away.
While service events run for a set period of time, we would love to have you pitch in even if you aren't able to stay for the entire event.

Finding us: We are located at the intersection of Park Blvd and F St.
770 Park Blvd is easily accessible from the Blue and Orange Line trolleys, and a simple transfer away from the Green Line trolley. We are located between the Park & Market station (3 min walk) and the City College station (4 min walk).
Paid parking lots and metered parking are available within walking distance.
