Bookshelf for Teens and Tweens

Words Alive is committed to providing access to diverse and relevant books that reflect the life experiences of the students served. When readers see themselves in positive characters who look and sound like them, it sends a message that they too belong and have a valuable place in our social fabric while unlocking a world of role models who can show them what’s possible.

Each of our books is paired with in-depth curriculum guides that feature reading comprehension questions, discussion sessions, writing prompts, research topics, hands-on projects and ideas for supplemental texts and media. Our curriculum team is made up of staff with diverse teaching backgrounds and a volunteer corps of experts from the field, including past speech pathologists, award-winning principals, teachers, librarians, counselors and more.

My experience reading the book is that it’s telling my life, and I love the book - not like - love the book.
— Trejenae, age 12, reading Hey, Kiddo!
