Creative Writing: Six-Word Memoirs

by the ABG student authors of Golden Hill K-8

The book: Hey Kiddo by Jarrett Krosoczka

This graphic novel is an important memoir about growing up in a family as it grapples with addiction, finding the people who help get you through, and the art that helps you survive.

The Prompt: The graphic novel, Hey, Kiddo, tells an emotional personal story using illustrations and just a few words. Write your own story using only a few words — six to be exact. Just six words can really pack a punch, if chosen carefully and arranged just right. Take Ernest Hemingway’s six-word story for example: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”
